Engine protection and security
Alert systems monitor critical engine functions including engine temperature, oil pressure, fuel injection and charging. This notifies the boat operator of any abnormal conditions. An audible buzzer and warning light will be activated if a fault is detected (BF40 – BF250), whereas on non PGM-FI outboards (remote control models), the alert system will monitor engine temperature and oil pressure. (BF10 – BF30)

Low vibration
Sick of getting a numb or tingly arm while out on the water from the harsh vibrations resonating from your engine? Not with the BF4, 5 and 6, Honda have specifically developed new rubber engine mounts that are integrated into the outboard to absorb practically all vibrations across the rpm range; delivering superior comfort to the operator, meaning that you can travel longer and further in complete comfort.
Corrosion protection system
Every Honda engine undergoes an exclusive four-stage coating process for protection against harsh conditions like ultraviolet rays and saltwater exposure. A double-sealed anodising treatment is applied to the aluminium alloy base, followed by the epoxy primer undercoat, acrylic aqua marine silver paint, and finally, the acrylic resin topcoat.
Extended running time
Each engine has an integrated large capacity fuel tank built in, hidden away under the cowl this additional 1.5l of fuel gives the operator longer continuous running time; the longest running time available in their class with up to 43 minutes at wide open throttle. Equipped with a Honda's decompression mechanism, the BF4, 5 and 6 are a breeze to start at whatever temperature the engine may be.

Equipped with a one touch engine stop switch for convenience, making it safer in emergency situations and also making it much easier to turn off the engine when you reach your destination. To protect the outboard, an oil alert system automatically limits the engine speed to 2,300 rpm in case of an oil pressure drop.

This air/fuel ratio and ignition-timing technology boosts engine torque at low RPM under rapid acceleration conditions. It’s NMEA compatible, meaning all engine data including speed, fuel consumption, cruising distance, etc can be displayed on the GPS screen

You’ll get best in class charging performance with the BF40 thanks to a 17-amp alternator. This means your outboard is able to charge the battery faster and power more accessories, so that you can now run a bit of extra tech on the boat to help you find the perfect catch.
Multi-function tiller handle
The BF40s multi-function tiller handle incorporates a power trim-tilt switch in the tiller handle, so the operator can trim the engine while underway and remain completely focused on the water. It also has a reversible shift lever, which can be mounted on the left or right side.
Programmed Fuel Injection (PGM-FI)
Honda’s renowned Programmed Fuel Injection is controlled by an advanced Engine Control Unit (ECU). Engine sensors precisely control the supply of fuel to the engine, providing easy starting, instantaneous throttle response and superior fuel economy. (BF40– BF250)
Lean Burn Control
Honda’s Lean Burn Control technology, ECOmo, permits combustion to operate on a leaner air/fuel ratio. Sensors precisely measure the air/fuel mixture, ensuring best fuel economy in cruising mode. (BF40 - BF250).

Trolling Control is available from BF40 - BF150 & BF200-250 (DBW only). Available on selected Honda outboards, engine speed can be controlled in increments of 50RPM from idle speed to 1000RPM/1100RPM (model dependent). BFP60 Power Thrust
The BFP60 variant offers ‘Power Thrust’ – the engine has a bigger gear case and larger diameter propeller. This ultimately results in greater thrust and is particularly useful for commercial/big boat applications. This is available in remote control configuration, so you can spend more time at the front of your boat checking out the scenery. Power Thrust also increases charging power, with a multi-pole AC generator (ACG) which provides an impressive 22amp of battery charging capacity - that's ample power for onboard marine electronics, live bait tanks and any other equipment you might take out onto the water with you.

Boosted Low Speed Torque (BLAST)
Honda’s revolutionary BLAST™ technology provides strong hole shot performance, getting the hull on the plane quicker. This air/fuel ratio and ignition-timing technology boosts engine torque at low RPM under rapid acceleration conditions. It’s NMEA compatible, meaning all engine data including speed, fuel consumption, cruising distance, etc can be displayed on the GPS screen
NMEA2000 compliance
All Honda outboards from the BF40 to BF250 are NMEA2000 compliant, allowing simplified connectivity with NMEA2000 electronic equipment such as sonars/fish finders, chart plotters and other devices via CANbus network technology.
Variable Valve Timing & Lift Electronic Control (VTEC)
The VTEC™ system, which optimises power and efficiency at all engine speeds, was born out of Honda’s passion for racing. Innovations like these are now available inside many Honda outboards. Developed for high performance engines, VTEC varies the lift and duration of the intake valves to provide optimum performance at both low and high RPMs. VTEC delivers smooth stable idling at low speeds, while increasing valve lift at higher speeds, which broadens the torque curve and top end power.
Programmed Fuel Injection (PGM-FI)
Honda’s renowned Programmed Fuel Injection is controlled by an advanced Engine Control Unit (ECU). Engine sensors precisely control the supply of fuel to the engine, providing easy starting, instantaneous throttle response and superior fuel economy. (BF40– BF250)
Lean Burn Control
Honda’s Lean Burn Control technology, ECOmo, permits combustion to operate on a leaner air/fuel ratio. Sensors precisely measure the air/fuel mixture, ensuring best fuel economy in cruising mode. (BF40 - BF250).
Trolling control
Trolling Control is available from BF40 - BF150 & BF200-250 (DBW only). Available on selected Honda outboards, engine speed can be controlled in increments of 50RPM from idle speed to 1000RPM/1100RPM (model dependent). A switch required to activate this feature is available through your authorised Honda Marine dealer as an optional accessory. (BF40 - BF150)

BFP60 Power Thrust
The BFP60 variant offers ‘Power Thrust’ – the engine has a bigger gear case and larger diameter propeller. This ultimately results in greater thrust and is particularly useful for commercial/big boat applications. This is available in remote control configuration, so you can spend more time at the front of your boat checking out the scenery. Power Thrust also increases charging power, with a multi-pole AC generator (ACG) which provides an impressive 22amp of battery charging capacity - that's ample power for onboard marine electronics, live bait tanks and any other equipment you might take out onto the water with you.
Multi-function tiller handle
The BF60s multi-function tiller handle incorporates a power trim-tilt switch in the throttle grip, so the operator can trim the engine while underway and remain completely focused on the water. It also has a reversible shift lever, which can be mounted on the left or right side.
